When Do Changes Become Effective?

  • January 1 - Medical, Dental, Avesis Vision, Health Care Flexible Spending Account and Dependent Care Assistance Program
  • January 1 or first of the month following approval, whichever is later for Group term Basic Life, Dependent Life or Voluntary Term Life Insurance

 

What should I Do During Open Enrollment?

  • Review plans, make changes and confirm elections in Workday
  • Please ensure that your dependents remain eligible for benefits in which they are enrolled.  If not, you should remove them during Open Enrollment.
  • Access ALEX, a virtual benefits assistant
  • If you are retiring prior to December 31, please do not use Workday to make changes, instead set up an appointment with a Benefits Consultant

 

What You Can Change

 

Medical Plan - You may change from one medical plan to another without a waiting period for pre-existing conditions. You may also add or remove dependents without proof of a qualifying life event.

Dental Plan - You may begin Basic coverage without incurring the deferred coverage waiting period. You may change from the Basic Plan to the Comprehensive Plan. You may change from the Comprehensive Plan to the Basic Plan, provided you have been enrolled in the Comprehensive plan for at least three years. You may add or remove dependents. 

Group Term Basic Life Insurance 2x - If previously waived, you may apply for coverage. You will be required to complete a Principal Statement of Health Questionnaire. Principal will send an email with instructions on completing the online Statement of Health. If approved by Principal, coverage will begin on a date determined by Principal.  

Group Term Life Insurance $50,000 - You may switch from Basic 2x life insurance without medical underwriting approval.  You cannot be enrolled in both the Group Term Basic 2x Life option and also the Group Term Life $50,000 option.

Health Care Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP)During this time you may start, stop, increase or decrease participation in either the FSA or DCAP.  Please note:  Employees must re-elect FSA and DCAP contributions each year.  Enrollment in these plans will not automatically carry over to the new plan year.  

Voluntary Term Life Insurance - You may decrease Voluntary Term Life Insurance coverage. If you apply or increase coverage, you will be required to complete the Principal Statement of Health Questionnaire.  Principal will send an email with instructions on completing the online Statement of Health. If approved by Principal, coverage will begin on a date determined by Principal.  

Voluntary Term Life may be canceled at any time.

Dependent Term Life Insurance - You may decrease Dependent Term Life Insurance coverage.  If you elect to enroll or increase coverage, you will be required to complete the Principal Statement of Health Questionnaire for each dependent. Principal will send an email with instructions on completing the online Statement of Health. If approved by Principal, coverage will begin on the date determined by Principal.

Dependent Term Life may be canceled at any time. 

Avesis Vision Eyewear Plan - You may elect to begin, change or end enrollment in Avesis vision.
